Problem(s) Fixed
This is a patch for the StreetTalk Naming Service, StreetTalk Server
Service, StreetTalk Name Collector Service, StreetTalk Communications
Service, and the StreetTalk File Service for Windows NT Server.
1. Decreases synchronization traffic generated by the StreetTalk
Naming Service by removing a flag byte on outgoing synchronization
packets.
SPR: 1021608
2. Places the file PATHIST on the server in the directory where
StreetTalk for Windows NT is installed. This file maintains the
patch history of the server, appending information each time a
patch is applied.
SPR: 1021656
3. The StreetTalk Server Service on the StreetTalk for Windows NT
server now returns the correct time zone offset to network
applications and services. As a result, Beyond Mail and VINES
Blue mail applications now display the correct time.
SPR: 1021695
4. The StreetTalk Naming Service no longer incorrectly references
shadowed locations when receiving synchronization packets from
duplicate groups on the network.
SPR: 1021751
5. STDA services no longer continually consume memory when attribute
<5:13> is not set in downstream STDA services.
SPR: 1021523
6. Downstream servers now properly cycle inclusion files after
checking them for corruption.
SPR: 1021379
7. STDA services no longer accept potentially corrupting instant
updates from StreetTalk Naming services for which the bad status
field is set.
SPR: 1021486
8. When assigning names to backup files created as the result of
database corruption, the STDA service now prefixes a period
character (.) to the name of the file in which the corruption
was detected.
SPR: 1020185
9. Performing a SCRATCHBUILD or CLEANBUILD now deletes backup files
created as the result of STDA database corruption.
SPR: 1021493
10. Creates a new STDA attribute <5:27>, which displays the number of
database records for each class after a rebuild.
SPR: 1021493
11. The StreetTalk Name Collector service no longer panics when
reading corrupt local configuration information.
SPR: 1021493

service to prevent an STDA database from displaying invalid
StreetTalk characters in inclusion files. The default setting
for this attribute is OFF.
SPR: 1021507
16. A downstream StreetTalk Name Collector service no longer reports
error 2221 when files from an upstream STDA service are not yet
available for download.
SPR: 1021493
17. Downstream 5.5x STDA services no longer panic during a rebuild
when an upstream StreetTalk Name Collector service enumerates a
bad real-name attribute for nicknames in its database.
SPR: 1021664
18. Enhances the Banyan Support utility getprocs.exe as follows: adds
the ability to display all threads and thread ids; clarifies
column headers; improves the explanatory text displayed to
explain the output.

19. System crashes (bluescreens) no longer occur when a user logs
into the Banyan network from a StreetTalk for Windows NT server
that is configured to run VINES IP over FDDI.
SPR: 1022154
20. Enhances debugging support for the StreetTalk Communications
driver for use by Banyan Engineering in analyzing system dumps.
SPR: 1022155
21. The StreetTalk Naming Service now logs the following message to
the StreetTalk logs only if logging is set to the debug level:
GrpToAddr by VS@ServerName@Servers on group@org
SPR: 1022078

Recommendation
To apply this StreetTalk for Windows NT patch you must complete the
following steps:
Create a network installation directory
Update the network installation directory with the
files on the patch
Run SETUP to update the StreetTalk for Windows NT
software on the server
To Create a Network Installation Directory
Create a new network directory and copy the StreetTalk for Windows NT
CD-ROM to itas follows:
1. Set a drive to a network file service. For example, to map a drive
N to a file service, from the command prompt, enter:
SETDRIVE N "File Service@group@organization"
2. From the command prompt, enter the drive letter you mapped to the
file service in step 1. For example, to make drive N the active
drive, enter:
N:
3. At the root of this drive, create a subdirectory into which you
will copy the contents of the StreetTalk for Windows NT CD-ROM.
For example to create a subdirectory called STNT, enter:
MKDIR STNT
4. Copy the contents of the StreetTalk for Windows NT CD-ROM to the
subdirectory created in step 3. For example, to copy the CD-ROM in
drive D to the subdirectory N:\STNT, enter:
XCOPY d:\ N:\STNT /e /s /v
The directory N:\STNT becomes the network installation directory.
You are now ready to update the files in the network installation
directory with the files contained in the patch.
Note: Maintain the network installation directory and use it as the
source for applying subsequent StreetTalk for Windows NT
patches. Each time you obtain a new patch, you update the files
in the network installation directory with the files delivered
in the patch.
To Update the Network Installation Directory With the New Files from
the Patch
1. After downloading the patch files, copy them to a directory on a
local or network fixed disk.
2. Map a network drive to the network installation directory created
in the preceding section.
3. Make the drive and directory containing the patch files active. For
example, if you placed the patch files in the directory 96082 on
drive C of your workstation, from the command prompt, enter:
C: CD 96082
4. Run the UPDATE.BAT file that exists in the patch directory,
entering the pathname of the network installation directory as
the only parameter. For example, if you mapped drive N to the
network installation directory, from the command prompt enter:
UPDATE N:\STNT
UPDATE.BAT copies the files from the patch directory to the network
installation directory.
You are now ready to run SETUP to update the software on the server.
Note: When running the SETUP program to apply the patch to your
server, if you have previously installed VINES Files on the
server, there is no need to re-install this component.
Follow the steps outlined below to update your server software.
To Update Files on the StreetTalk for Windows NT Server
1. For each server you are updating, run SETUP from the network
installation directory corresponding to the language version of
the software you have installed.
Examples:
If you installed the USA version of StreetTalk for Windows NT, and
drive N is mapped to the network installation directory, run
SETUP.EXE from the directory N:\STNT\USA.
OR
If you installed the French version of StreetTalk for Windows
NT, and drive N is mapped to the network installation directory,
run SETUP.EXE from the directory N:\STNT\France .
2. Continue with the setup program following the instructions on
the screen until the Setup Type dialog box appears. At the Setup
Type dialog box select Custom to enable you to choose the
components of the software that you want to install.
3. The Select Installation Components dialog box appears. Uncheck the
VINES Files checkbox to disable installation of VINES Files.
4. Complete the installation of StreetTalk for Windows NT
following normal installation procedures.
